Global A Go-Go presents:
Garry from the Lost Music Saloon show (Mondays 5-7:00 p.m.) sitting in for Bill today. I’ll be taking you musically all around the world, but if you notice an emphasis on Caribbean music – – specifically the music of the U.S. and British Virgin Islands – – please enjoy it. I lived on St. Thomas in the USVI for a total of 8 years back in the mid-late ’80s, and again in the late ’90s/early ’00s. A lot of my love of world music can be traced to those years when I branched out from local and Caribbean music (reggae/soca/calypso), to African and Middle Eastern music, to…everywhere. This playlist reflects all of that, including an Arctic Inuit song; a Japanese band’s interpretation of American retro-rock; a Thai band’s stab at surf music; and an Italian band’s complete deconstruction/destruction of a Bob Dylan classic that is actually one of my fave Dylan covers – – so…..ENJOY!
