Cosmic Connections presents:

When music from an unknown source fills the hull and minds of the crew of the I.S.S. Sanchez, it’s 3 person crew reacts with wonder and horror as it haunts them relentlessly from an unknown source somewhere in deep space….

PILOT: When deep space exploration first opened up to humanity, Hyper sleep wasn’t quite developed. You’d have a crew of 20 young men, boys really, go out into the void. By the time they would return, even when using a jump drive, you’d have two old men who could barely recall what had happened to them. That’s when the company designed the Hyper sleep protocol. I’ve heard rumors that the computer doesn’t even begin to tell you it has begun to infuse the ship with the anesthetic, but only informs you when it guesses your body will begin to react. The first spacers to experience it were left psychologically broken by the sudden blast of potent drugs that were blasted into the air with no warning, no smell, no druggie effects before it washes over you, kicking you to sleep.

Later generations have enjoyed such things like automated warnings, albeit maybe a couple minutes to late, and faint smells that somehow, everyone interpreted differently. I smelled rose oil in the air, and it reminded me of my mother for what seemed to be a long moment. I fought against the world falling away from me, tried to pry my eyes open when they would flutter for a moment too long, until they were locked shut against my will. I was back in the car passing the expanse of trees edging on meadow farmland. I was 12 years old, flying down the road sitting on a bench seat at my dad smoked with one hand and held the thin black steering wheel with another as we charged through washes of leaves across the asphalt. My dad turned his attention from the road, and in the specious logic of dreams I was now a man, wearing my issued fatigues and a full beard.

“Did you find what you were looking for, son?”
“I did, dad.”
“How was it.”
“Savage and beautiful.”
“There will be a lot of happy people. You did a great thing, you know.”

“I suppose so.”

We continued down the road, but never seeming to get any closer to home. I watched him continue to smoke his cigarette, the smell of the burning tobacco was that of mom’s rose oil. I found myself fished out of the dream, upwards and away, looking down on the asphalt snake of narrow country road, pulled up and away as fields fell away from me under my feet, and awoke in a medical bay. Instead of my dad, there was now a woman wearing a white coat looking down at a tablet pad that her fingers tapped impatiently at. She looked over the rim of it, then turned her attention back down and continued to tap.

“Good morning.” She said.

This week well be listening to OOIOO, Clap! Clap!, Linda Perhaps, Teebs, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Autechre and lots more!

When music from an unknown source fills the hull and minds of the crew of the I.S.S. Sanchez, it’s 3 person crew reacts with wonder and horror as it haunts them relentlessly from an unknown source somewhere in deep space….

Cosmic Connections blasts off in Episode 1! The crew of the SS Sanchez after deciding that time had officially ended and now on the tailspin end of Hedonistic exploration they now enter a different phase on the course of their minds. Reality, such as it is in the cosmos appears distorted and clear at the same time, the promise of freedom and understanding from the cage of their ship hurtling unprotected in deep space. Will the SS Sanchez survive this cosmic trip?!

This episode has Buddhist sutra recitation, songs about meditation and contemplating the self. There are songs about desire, lost and a lot of heavy guitar riffs along with lilting acoustic melodies. Featuring Karen Beth, The Open Mind, Brewer & Shipley plus many more!

Cosmic Connections is an anthology of music and stories. It is produced and directed by David Ace, and the stories are written by Charlie Wells.

Finding Sounds presents:

The final part of my 3 part series, following Prison Religion’s tour thru EU, Fall 2023. In this episode, I compiled a set in my hotel in Salzburg, AT. This was a solitary one, an apt end to the long but incredible run. Tracklist will be listed on the FS soundcloud.

Cause and Effect presents:

cats in a movie theatre

Join DJ Miss Kitty as she explores a brief history of music in film from the 1930s-2000s. Starting with film scoring of the late 30s/40s, composers during this period almost exclusively wrote original orchestral pieces to accompany a film. We’ll hear from highly influential composers from the time like Max Steiner and Alfred Newman. We then move to film scoring that is more influenced by pop and jazz during the 1950s-60s with well-known hits from masters like Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin, and Ennio Morricone. The late 60s and early 70s began to include original music featuring vocals from famous artists like Simon & Garfunkle, Curtis Mayfield, and Jimmy Cliff. These soundtracks were famous in their own right, independent from the movies that featured them.  During the 1970s New Hollywood era, film music headed in two concurrent, divergent directions with the incorporation of synthesizers and a return to classic scoring with the likes of John Carpenter and John Williams.

The 1980s ring in the “jukebox” era of movie soundtracks. The 1980s are full of song-laden soundtracks, most of which were not produced to accompany a film, but are used to punctuate the film’s plot. Due to advancing digital technology—”especially sampling and computer-based sequencing—the 1980s also saw the proliferation of synthesizer-heavy scores. Notably: Escape from New York (John Carpenter, 1981), The Terminator (Brad Fiedel, 1984), Blade Runner (Vangelis, 1982), and Tron (1982, Wendy Carlos.) Jerry Goldsmith’s work on the Star Trek film series (1979 onward) explores the possibilities of fusing orchestral sounds with electronic elements.” The 1990s-2000s saw a boon in hit movie soundtracks that seemed to define generations through popular music of the time like Trainspotting or Clueless or evoke the nostalgia of simpler times like in the popular movies Dazed & Confused and Jackie Brown.

Finding Sounds Ep17– Prison Religion tour diary part 2: EXIT, Glasgow featuring TRSSX, Joey Desktop, [underthunder], False Prpht & deskulling

Part two of the Prison Religion tour diary was recording in our homies’ new bangin’ club, EXIT, located in Glasgow. We had some old CDJs so it was a bit wonky but nevertheless we made it. A few nights before, they had me and Warren (Prison Religion) do a DJ set, primetime Saturday night. We literally got off the plan and straight to the decks. Legendary night. Big up to TRSSX and my brother Joey Desktop for having us and facilitating this mix. Much love.
