Food Access: Farmers Markets Accept SNAP EBT

SNAP = Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as Food Stamps) funds are distributed via Electronic Benefits Transfer (i.e. swipe cards). Beginning this month more than 30 farmers markets and stands will begin accepting EBT cards for purchases of all manner of fresh, wholesome produce, meats, dairy, poultry, food seeds and plants for the home gardener. At least 6 are in the Richmond metropolitan area. What can this mean for Richmond's "food desert" neighborhoods? Tune in for today's commentary.
