The Anderson Gallery of Virginia Commonwealth University presents a Wednesday evening Happy Hour program called “Hands On: Felt-making for Nomads” on July 27th from 5 to 7 pm. The Dragon Boat Festival returns to Rocketts Landing on July 30 from 8 am to 4 pm for another year of racing dragon boats on the James River. The race will feature 40-foot canoes decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads. Each boat will be filled with a team of 20 synchronized paddlers, one drummer and one steersperson. Teams from Richmond companies will participate in the races.  

Each year, thousands of Purple Martin’s return to roost in the Pear Trees next to the Historic 17th Street Farmers’ Market during their annual migration from South America. Bring your family and bring your camera while capturing the breathtaking spender and aerial ballet of these migratory birds that return each year to rest and recoup from their journey. The Richmond Public Library’s Main Branch features FUN FRIDAY’s every Friday this summer.  Children’s activities start at 10 am  and activities for Tweens start at 3 pm. The William Byrd Community House  invites families to our Annual Carnival on August 19 from 4-8 pm. This family friendly event features games, prizes, food and music.  The event will be held at the William Byrd Community House athletic fields. Join the fight against homelessness by donating gently used furniture and household items to the next CARITAS Furniture Bank on August 27th for Donation Saturday, held the fourth Saturday of each month, from 9 AM to 2 PM.
