The Redwing’s Nest, Sabot at Stony Point’s online journal of Art and Literature for children pre-school through 8th grade, is now accepting submissions for the next issue until October 1.  The theme for this issue is ME, MYSELF AND I.  If your child has written a poem, a memoir, a story or created a work of art about ME then send in a submission.  The Redwing's Nest is open to children from around the globe, so tell your friends.  For more information contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

On Friday September 8th the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presents another installment in its Jazz Café series in the BEST café.  In collaboration with The Richmond Jazz Society, the series features an eclectic mix of jazz ensembles every Thursday from 6 to 9 pm. The museum is open late until 9 pm every Friday.  This Thursday event features Bop Nation, a Mixture of fusion, traditional, and original jazz .  VMFA is located at 200 North Boulevard.  For more information visit www.vmfa.museum


On Friday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m, The Department of Music at The University of Richmond presents its annual Family Weekend Concert showcases the outstanding talents of University of Richmond students. Enjoy performances by the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Women’s Chorale, and Schola Cantorum.  The concerts take place in the Camp Concert Hall at the University of Richmond.  For more information contact 289-8277.

1708 Gallery presents Monster Draw Rally on Saturday August 27th from 3:30 to 9 pm.  Come and watch your favorite artists at work.  15 artists will be drawing at one time throughout the evening. Check out the night sky with SKY WATCH at the Science Museum of Virginia every 3rd Friday of the month.  Join members of the Richmond Astronomical Society on the museum's front lawn as they share their powerful telescopes for a look at the night sky. The next Sky watch is on September 16th at 7:30 pm.  For more information contact the Science Museum at 864-1400.  The museum is located at 2500 West Broad Street downtown.  

The Anderson Gallery of Virginia Commonwealth University opens an exhibition called “Environment and Object: Recent African Art” on September 9th from 6 to 8 pm with an opening reception.  There will be a panel discussion on September 8th at The Grace Street Theatre at 934 West Grace Street called “Environment and Object-Artists and Issues” with artists and curators. Contemporary Galleries on Broad Street, including Quirk Gallery, 1708 Gallery and Ghostprint Gallery will open new exhibits on Friday September 2 from 5 to 8 pm.  The exhibits feature innovative work by new and emerging, as well as established, artists.  For more information visit the gallery websites.
