“Lana Lawless Litigates" Read By: Miss Heavenly Leigh – Kennedy

Lana Lawless, a 57-year-old retired police officer who had gender-reassignment surgery in 2005, made history in 2008 after winning the world’s women’s golf long drive championship. She had hit the ball 254 yards into a headwind.  Lawless, who has played golf all her life, became interested in competing professionally after watching the women’s long-drive championship on ESPN in 2006.  The next year she competed and placed third in the championship.
But in 2010, she was ruled ineligible because of the new ruling that required competitors to be “female at birth.” So Lawless filed a suit against the Ladies Professional Golf Association, Long Drivers of America, and their corporate sponsors – Dick’s Sporting Goods, Re/Max and CVS.
Her case was settled favorably in May of 2011.
Details tomorrow.
