“More Lives Lost in 2011 (Part 3)
(Read by Cory Boone)

American actor Farley Granger died in New York City on March 27.  He starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s two homoerotic film classics, “Rope” and “Strangers on a Train.” But he was more fulfilled in his later stage career.
The next day, March 28, the opera world lost famed American opera composer Lee Hoiby.  He began his opera-compositional studies with Gian Carlo Menotti at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.
Then there was Sir Simon Milton, Deputy Mayor of London,  who died on April 11 at age 49.  He was survived by his civil partner Robert Curtis. They had been together for 20 years.
And then on April 29, science fiction writer Joanna Russ died in Tucson, Arizona. Her first science fiction story was “Nor Custom Stale” in 1959, and her first novel was “Picnic on Paradise” in 1968.
