“The Drinking Water Will Make You Gay"
(Read by Lloyd Bryant)
At least that is what a Peruvian mayor is saying about his town’s drinking water. Mayor Jose Benitez of Huarmey, Peru, believes the high levels of the mineral strontium in his city’s drinking water are responsible for a reduction of male hormones which could lead to homosexuality. You see, the neighboring town of Tabalosos supplies their drinking water, and a while back a Lima-based television station claimed Tabalosos was inhabited by 14,000 gay men.
Benitez’s fear was drinking the water would increase homosexuality in his town like he claims it did in Tabalosos.
But according to Dr. Robert Rodriguez, dean of the College of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of Lima, high levels of strontium in the body can lead to bone cancer, anemia and cardiovascular problems, but not to homosexuality.
