Through Richmond’s drag community, Whitney Houston has made many appearances in town. And even though the legendary singer died on February 11, 2012, she lives on.
My name is Alvion Arnelle Davenport, and as far as I’m concerned, Whitney Houston was by far one of the best if not the best voices of our time.
My first drag performance ever was Whitney Houston. I entered the industry in late winter of 2004 with her song, “One Of Those Days.” To date I believe my favorite song to perform by her would be “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” because of its energy. I remember how beautiful, young and innocent she appeared in the video singing that song. I have various Whitney Houston favorites, and trust me, her legacy will live on through me!
