“A Huge Birthday for the Girl Scouts" Read by: Lisa Kroll

On March 12, 1912,  Juliette Gordon Low, better known as Daisy, gathered together 18 girls from Savannah Georgia for a local Girl Scout meeting.  It was her belief that all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually and be encouraged toward community service and getting out into the open air.
That was the beginnings of the Girl Scouts.
On March 12, 2012, the Girl Scouts marked it 100th anniversary, with a membership of 3.2 million girls and adults and over 50 million alumnae.  Diversity has been a core value of Girl Scouts since its founding in 1912, with Low’s focus on a girl-centered organization that gives all girls the opportunity to join in.
