“Kristy McNichol Comes Out" Read By Chris Cox
Rumors that actress Kristy McNichol was a lesbian have swirled since the 1970s. In January 2012, she finally confirmed those rumors, coming out in People magazine. She said the recent reporting of bullying in school made her sad, and she hoped that her coming out would help kids who need support. And now that she is approaching 50, she wants to “be open about who I am.”
In her childhood, thanks to friend Desi Arnaz, McNichol appeared in commercials and then made guest appearances on “Starsky and Hutch,” “The Bionic Woman,” “Love American Style,” and “Love Boat.” But it was her character of “Buddy” in the TV drama series “Family” that earned her two Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1977 and 1979.
