“Helping Gay Elders in Philadelphia" Read By: Dustin Richardson

News came in April 2012 that Philly’s first affordable, LGBT-friendly senior living facility is a go. Backers of the proposed facility had secured the needed $11 million in state tax credits to move forward.
Mark Segal, the driving force behind the project, couldn’t have been happier.
With a total price tag of $19 million, the 6-story, 56 unit building will be located between Locust and Spruce Streets – right in the center of Philadelphia’s gayborhood.  Scheduled to begin construction this fall, the facility will address the needs of LGBT elders who lack a family or support network.
For Segal, the facility represents, “A new process nationally on how to start a dialogue for LGBT seniors and a starting point for how to meet their needs.”
