“Canadian Gay Couple Denied a Room,” coming up now on “The Rainbow Minute.”
Reader: Ali Thompson

In July 2012, a Human Rights Tribunal in British Columbia ruled that a retired couple who refused to allow two gay men to stay at their bed and breakfast must pay the men a fine of more than $4,500.  The B&B owners, Les and Susan Molnar, stated they had banned the gay men from their home since prayer meetings were held there.

Three years earlier, Shaun Eadie and Brian Thomas had reserved a single room for two. The innkeepers suspected the couple was gay, and called them back. When Eadie admitted they were gay, the Molnars cancelled their reservation.

During the tribunal hearing, the Molnars argued they had a constitutionally protected right to freedom of religion, which justified their actions.
Details on the tribunal’s ruling, tomorrow.
