“New Gay Teen Superhero"

In November, 2011, with the idea of creating “a more modern, diverse DC Universe,” DC Comics introduced a gay teenage superhero in Teen Titans #3. Named Bunker, he is sometimes referred to as “The Wall” since he can create small force fields that look like bricks. Series artist Brett Booth says Bunker is happy and fun-loving.

Series writer Scott Lobdell describes Bunker as being born out of the closet, which gives him a refreshing outlook on life.  His real name is Miguel Jose Barragan.  He was raised in Mexico, with his family and villagers accepting his homosexuality as well as his super powers as they developed.

Costumed in purple, Bunker’s sexual orientation will be depicted as something that’s not hidden.
