The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presents The Scholastic Art Awards Regional Gold Key Award recipients.

On view in the Art Education Center of VMFA beginning on February 9th, these works by artists 7th through 12th grade

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond holds Open Figure Drawing studios on most Fridays. 

The next Open figure drawing is on February 15 from 6:30 to 9 pm.  Gain experience drawing from a live model in this open studio. No registration required.  For more information visit viasarts.org

 

On Tuesdays throughout the school year Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Cinema presents Cinematique, a program featuring regular screenings of international films in 35 mm at the Grace Street Theatre.  The theater is located at 934 West Grace Street.  For more information visit arts.vcu.edu/cinematique

 

1708 Gallery has an open call for artists until March 1 for the FEED 2013 Juried Biennial Exhibition. 

Professional and Graduate Student artists are invited to submit work for this 3rd annual international juried event.

For Indie film fans! Through April, The Modlin Center for the Arts at The University of Richmond, in collaboration with the Firehouse Theatre Project and James River Film Society, present the On Screen/In Person film program. The next film is “Cafeteria Man” directed by Richard Chisholm at 7:30 pm. Screenings take place at the Firehouse Theatre Project at 1609 West Broad Street. The Valentine Richmond History Center presents History Ink: the tattoo archive project.  This exhibition focuses on the rising popularity of body art, specifically tattoos, broadly in American Culture and locally in Richmond.  The exhibit is on view through March 31. The Valentine is located at 1015 East Clay Street.  For more information call 649-0711.

 

On all Thursday evenings this Winter the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presents the next installments in its Jazz Café series in the BEST café.  In collaboration with The Richmond Jazz Society, the series features an eclectic mix of jazz ensembles every Thursday from 6 to 9 pm. The museum is open late until 9 pm every Thursday and Friday. VMFA is located at 200 North Boulevard.  For more information visit vmfa.museum

 

Check out the night sky with SKY WATCH at the Science Museum of Virginia every 3rd Friday of the month.  Join members of the Richmond Astronomical Society on the museum's front lawn as they share their powerful telescopes for a look at the night sky. Mercury and Mars are easy to spot this month. The next Sky watch is on February 12th  at 7:30 pm.  For more information contact the Science Museum at 864-1400.  The museum is located at 2500 West Broad Street downtown.
