 1) Talk20 is back.  On Tuesday, May 7, C3 and i.e* present talk20, a gathering of creative people showcasing what’s cool, interesting, and creative in Richmond.  The only rule is that they submit 20 slides, with a maximum of 20 seconds per slide to talk.  Talk20, 8^th edition, on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 8 pm at the Visual Arts Center on 1812 W. 2)  The City of Richmond’s Department of Parks, Rec and Community Facilities will celebrate National Photography Month in May with an exhibit at Pine Camp Cultural Arts and Community Center featuring the photographs of Louis Draper.Louis Draper was a highly accomplished African American photographer who was born in Richmond, Virginia, and eventually moved to New York in the late 1950s to further his education.  He photographed many celebrated individuals including jazz great Miles Davis, legendary dancer and choreographer Katherine Dunham, and activist Malcolm X.

The exhibit opens Friday, May 10, with a public reception from 6 to 8 pm.   “Louis Draper, Master Photographer” will be on display at Pine Camp on 4901 Old Brook Road through June 20. 

3) Join Art 180 on Wednesday, May 15, for “The BIG Show” – their annual event to celebrate young people and share their art and ideas with the Richmond community.  The show, which is free and open to the public, will highlight the eleven community-based programs in creative expression offered by ART 180 this spring.

Exhibitions of visual art projects will be on display, while performance-based art forms will be presented on stage.  The even begins at 6 pm at Plant Zero Art Center located at zero east fourth street.  Art 180’s The Big Show is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be provided, and children are welcome.   For more information go to their website: Art 180 (dot) O R G .

4)   The Henrico County Public Libraries are offering many free programs in May including: Canning 101 : an introduction to canning and food preservation at the Twin Hickory Area Library on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 pm.   Advance registration is required. A Kraft Kids event, to make Mother’s Day cards, will take place at the Fairfield Area Library on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 pm. An educational program about Lyme Disease and what you can do to keep yourself and family safe will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 2 pm, at the Gayton Branch Library.
