Cause And EffectCause and Effect: Special edition! Doug Martsch Hand Picked Built To Spill Set!!!!

Tonight's Special Fund Drive Edition of Cause and Effect is all about Built To Spill!!!!! The set list was hand picked by Doug Martsch from the band.  Not listening is not an option, neither is not donating. Tune in and donate!!!!

As a special bonus to the show, Dug was kind enough to give some words on why he picked certain songs, I'll be posting them as we go through

REM–Harborcoat–REM was college rock, which seemed like a big deal to

me when I was 14.

The Smiths–Girl Afraid–This was the first Smiths song I ever heard.

They were immediately my

favorite band.

David Bowie–Big Brother–Bowie was the most important musical force

to me in my teens.

The Church–Just For You–I listened to The Church's first few records

as much as anything when

I was a teenager.

The Clash–Police & Thieves–The Clash are my all-time favorite pop-punk band.

Bad Brains–Sailin' On–Half this Bad Brains record is straight up

roots reggae and the other

half is the most blistering hardcore you ever heard.  When I was young

I would skip the reggae songs–I still had a lot to learn…

Meat Puppets–milo, sorghum, and maize

Butthole Surfers–Hey–When I was young I couldn't tell if the Meat

Puppets and Butthole

Surfers were serious avant-gaurde or just making fun of music.

Camper Van Beethoven–Une Fois–Camper Van Beethoven were very trippy

to me when I was teenaged in my years.

Dinosaur (sic)–In a Jar–Dinosaur's (sic) You're Living All Over Me

has had more influence over my

music than any other album.

The Velvet Underground–The Murder Mystery–This is good stuff…

Sonic Youth–White Kross–Sonic Youth took me a couple tries but

Daydream Nation got me hooked

and I went back for everything and even stayed on board for a few

years.

Quasi–Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouller–These guys are great.

The Pixies–Hey

Modest Mouse–Broke (live) from "Interstate 8"

Slam Dunk–Can't Stand It–The Pixies were the last of that generation

to a be an epiphany to me.

It happened a while later with Modest Mouse, and most recently with

Slam Dunk.
