Party of One: Lighten up! presents:
So today's record got me thinking about a couple of things. First: Ween is an amazingly talented band. Like, they are some serious musicians. I've seen them a time or three, and they really do know how to perform. Not only are they fantastic at playing music, they are also fantastic at entertaining. It's surprising even to me that I've never actually heard this record. In fact, while spinning it, I heard a few tunes I only knew from their live shows and kinda went "oh…that's what record this song's on…"
Anyway, I digress. So this record not only demonstrates (yet again) that Ween are comfortable with pretty much any style of rock–this being very Beatles-influenced–but that they are also very good at whatever they decide to play. It's also very whimsical. Whimsy is just how Ween roll. Sometimes they are shrugged off as a "novelty", but any musician knows that's not quite true. Like the Harlem Globe Trotters. Sure, they's a gas, but let's see you try to sink a jump shot in front of Curly.
So I've tried to fill my show with songs by bands that both great and whimsical. Hope you enjoy.
