If Music Could Talk - July 12, 2015 - ahhh.. the diverse styles of music in the world presents:
Today's episode of "if Music Could Talk" will feature one of the most interesting, and peculiar pairings of musical themes in perhaps the entire history of radio.
Due to schedule necessities for all parties involved (I'll be out of town next weekend), the planets aligned in an interesting way for tonight's show.
At 7pm, we'll start with a set by one of my favorite ex WRIR DJs — who is still, thankfully, a regular guest on WRIR — BRAD STABLER.
Mr Stabler will be bringing us an overview of "the latest grime and club mutations from the UK and beyond".
For instance, some chunes as wicked and raw as dis one (though they will be edited for radio friendliness)
Then, at 8pm, Local Indian Classical Veena player, and master dance instructor Uma Ettigi will join us with her student Radhika to discuss how Indian Classical dance is taught, and the relationship that music has to the dances.
Radhika will be "graduating" from her many years of dance studies this August 1st at 3pm at Collegiate School. This Graduation is called a "Bharatanatyam Arangetram"
A very special group of Indian musicians are being flown in from Chennai for this event, which aims to "sustain and propagate the great art and culture of Indian Classical Dance" according to miss Uma Ettigi.
Uma-Ji performed several pieces on Veena – live in our old broadcast studio – last year on "If Music Could Talk". That performance can be heard HERE.
