Global A Go-Go presents:
Anthony Joseph is a Trinidad-born, London-based poet and novelist whose work draws on calypso, surrealism (his novel is entitled The African Origins Of UFOs) and jazz. And maybe Gil Scott-Heron as well, judging by the photo above.
He’s a compelling recording artist as well — his sixth album Caribbean Roots will be released on June 24 and you’ll hear a track from it, a tribute to the great calypsonian Mighty Sparrow, on this week’s program. Surrounding Joseph’s music will be a few other spoken word artists working with Afro-Caribbean music.
Also this week: a set of Lusophone music, great African guitars, and the new generation of Saharan desert blues.
