TODAY’S OPEN SOURCE RVA WILL DIZZY THE SENSES! The latest action-packed edition of Richmond’s audio news digest presents an overview of the forthcoming 24th annual James River Film Festival. Host Don Harrison talks with organizers Michael Jones and Jeff Roll of the James River Film Society about the multi-screen cinematic confab, which starts April 6. It will feature world-renowned filmmaker Guy Maddin as well as a bevy of music documentaries (on Sparklehorse, Ralph Stanley, New Model Army and more). We also welcome filmmaker Michele Poulos, who speaks about her documentary on the life of the late poet Larry Levis (pictured), which will be screened at the festival on April 7. And beware of the NIMBYS! Melissa Vaughn from RVA Dirt files a solo Quick and Dirty overview of this past Monday’s Richmond City Council meeting that is simply… chilling. Also, a new installment of Curtain Call is in the wings. This time out, the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle welcome Virginia Rep artistic director Nathaniel Shaw and co-director Chase Kniffen for a preview of the company’s upcoming main season, as well as review Theatrelab’s “Twilight Los Angeles, 1992” and Swift Creek Mill’s production of “Something’s Afoot.” And oh yes we check in with Meadowbrook High educator Katie Whelan and the kids from CHISPA, and hear from with Ashley Hawkins of Studio Two Three about an IndieGoGo fundraising campaign to fully-equip the studio’s mobile S23 To Go.
