Open Source RVA presents:

RESCUING A COMMUNITY TREASURE! On Friday’s edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, we talk about the impending restoration of Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond’s most historic African-American resting place. Joining me will be members of a new community team soliciting input into this long-needed overhaul: Marilyn Campbell of Richmond’s African-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Viola Baskerville, former Vice-Mayor and Virginia House Delegate, John Mitchell, the descendent of newspaper pioneer John Mitchell Jr., who is buried at Evergreen, and longtime Evergreen volunteer John Shuck. We’ll talk about the history of this important landmark, and about the community meetings about the project that will happen over the next few weeks in libraries, churches and museums across town. We also have another edition of Curtain Call, our bi-weekly look at Richmond’s thriving theater scene. This week, Jerry Williams, Julinda D. Lewis and Susie Hirsch Haubenstock review three new shows, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at Virginia Repertory Theatre, “Laramie Project” at Richmond Triangle Players at the Robert B. Moss Theatre and Swift Creek Mill Theatre’s “Count Dracula.” GET WITH THIS SOURCE! Open Source RVA is broadcast at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and http://www.wrir.org. (Photo: Enrichmond Foundation)
