We’re going to spotlight the last year of the American century, 1999.
That’s 20 years ago, btw, and not to make you feel any older than you do, but these are the last weeks these songs will be labeled with the favorable and cool “retro” moniker.
As you know the “retro” cycle goes in twenty years, when a certain generation comes of age to hold some cultural clout, as it were, and they start looking back and romanticizing the halcyon days of their misspent youth.
Thus, the previous generations “retro” romanticization gets labeled with the less than desirable and way less cool “oldies” moniker.
