Cause and Effect presents:
Gershwin’s impact on American music is immeasurable. He broke down barriers between the classical world and the emerging world of jazz. With his brother Ira he composed many timeless classics, including “Summertime” from the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. We will explore some of Gershwin’s orchestral compositions as well as some brilliant interpretations of his songs, featuring performances by Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and many others.
