IF YOU NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE, IT’S NEW TO YOU!! On Friday’s rebroadcast of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, we feature host Don Harrison’s in-depth interview with singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus. Her new “Home Video” release is an autobiographical set of songs about growing up in Richmond,. She talks about everything from the new album to her songwriting technique to how she deals with overeager fans. We also welcome cultural historian Brian Chidester, who recounts the unique musical legacy of Eden Ahbez, the composer of the jazz standard, “Nature Boy”, and one of America’s first proto-hippies. Chidester, with the band Ìxtahuele, recently shaped a series of lost Ahbez songs into a wonderful new album called “Dharmaland,” and talks about his forthcoming documentary, “As the Wind: The Enchanted Life of Eden Ahbez.” ALL OF THAT PLUS Curtain Call, produced by the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle. This week Jerry Williams speaks with, Louise Keeton, the Artistic Director of Aslhand’s The Whistle Stop Theatre Company about the company’s ten-year history, then The Conciliation Lab’s Mary Shaw and Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates fill us in on the Lab’s “BlackLIst” series, which highlights African-American playwrights.
