Open Source RVA presents:

THE RETURN OF THE FOLK! On Friday’s triumphant edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, it’s all about the big comeback of the Richmond Folk Festival, which starts Friday and runs FREE thru Sunday along the downtown Richmond waterfront. First, host Don Harrison talks about Go-Go music as a folk tradition with Andre “Whiteboy” Johnson, co-founder of the legendary Rare Essence, which returns to rock the house this year. Then we get the lowdown on what’s going to be different, including new social-distancing protocols, from co-organizer Blaine Waide, associate director of the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA). And THEN three of Don’s fellow Folk Festival Programming Committee members — Todd Ranson, Charles Graybeard Williams, and Gregg D. Kimball — offer tips on what’s not to be missed at this year’s big festival, which will include reggae, blues, tango, western swing, gospel, Lakota hoop dancing, and so much more. TIME TO SHUCK THOSE OYSTERS! It’s the Source’s annual Folk Festival preview on Friday at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org.
