Open Source RVA presents:

NEW YEAR, SAME SOURCE! On Friday’s first-of-the-year edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Don Harrison talks with author, Virginia historian and friend-of-the-show Dale Brumfield about the Robert E. Lee statue’s vaunted time capsule. Dale tells us about the national media circus surrounding the unearthing, gives us details on the perfectly-preserved discoveries, and ponders what may be in other monument time capsules. Dina Weinstein also speaks with Prison Journalism Project co-founders Yukari Iwatani Kane and Shaheen Pasha about how the Prison Journalism Project works with and trains incarcerated Virginians in journalism and writing. And the Monroe Park drama continues. We also welcome Kamari Branch and Aysia Anderson-McCoy, the two VCU students who had a confrontation with Monroe Park Conservancy’s President Alice Massie that led to assault charges against Massie (who has since resigned from the Conversancy). So what’s up with the disciplinary charges Virginia Commonwealth University has leveled at the students? IT’S A 2022 KIND OF SHOW, Y’ALL! Noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org. (Photo: Reuters)
