Open Source RVA presents:

YOUR SOURCE OF SOURCES! On Friday’s expansive installment of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, we welcome back Daniel Avula, the Director of the Richmond City and Henrico Health Departments and Virginia’s former Coronavirus Vaccination Coordinator. He gives Don Harrison a temperature check on the recent omicron-fueled COVID surge, and gives his thoughts on incoming Governor Glenn Youngkin’s decision to rescind the mask mandate in Virginia schools. Dina Weinstein also welcomes Annabel Tang and Mona Garimella, the student editors at the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School newspaper, The Jabberwock. They talk about  the publication’s ambitious special issue that examines the school’s past entitled “Buried History, New Promises.” AND we also speak with Charlottesville  filmmaker Ty Cooper, whose new indie film, “Amanda,” will be screened on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Bowtie Movieland 17. The film, shot in Richmond, is a powerful look at how people deal with tragedy, and is winning raves on the festival circuit. ALSO The Open Source RVA team — OK mostly Don — goes ALL IN on Casino 2.0. THIS ONE BUYS THE BABY’S SHOES!! Friday noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org. (Photo: Zaid Hamid / Richmond Magazine)
