Open Source RVA presents:

YOUR SOURCE FOR RADIO! On Friday’s edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, it’s a homecoming for the rest of us. WRIR is currently in its midst of its Spring fund drive and Dina Weinstein welcomes Shannon Cleary, the host of WRIR’s The Commonwealth of Notions, to talk about the big WRIR 18th Anniversary Party at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery on April 29. He tells us why you should come out and enjoy the bands and DJs at this free all-day event, and why it is so important right now for listeners to give their support to their favorite community radio station. (Give now at wrir.org and help keep Open Source RVA and other locally-produced news-talk shows on the air). THEN Don Harrison welcomes back activist and entrepreneur Farid Alan Schintzius. The man who helped start The Camel, and was instrumental in getting WRIR off the ground, is celebrating a big birthday party at the Camel on April 24 with donation proceeds going to WRIR’s sister low-power station in MIdlothian, WRWK, The Work FM. All of that PLUS Baylen Forcier returns to give us a glimpse of the hellish media landscape that Richmond endured BEFORE WRIR came along 18 years ago. (We don’t ever want to go back there.) It’s the Source, of course. Friday noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org.
