Open Source RVA presents:
POETRY, MUSIC & COMMUNITY-FUNDED RADIO! On Friday’s Spring Fund Drive edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, we welcome Richmond’s first Poet Laureate, Roscoe Burnems a.k.a. Douglas Powell. The National Poetry Slam champion, and founder of The Writer’s Den, tells Dina Weinstein about his impactful reign as first poet, how he got started writing verse, and what will happen at Saturday’s 2nd Annual RPS YOUTH POETRY SLAM at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. AND IT’S MONEY RAISING TIME at WRIR!!! Log on at wrir.org and donate to help keep community radio alive, and don’t forget to attend WRIR’s free WRIR 18th Anniversary Party on Saturday at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. To talk about the big event, I welcome Séyla Hossaini and Ben Rosenstock of Toward Space, one of the headlining bands to perform at the big birthday bash, Toward Space has a new album — produced at Minimum Wage Studios — that is turning ears, and we’ll give listeners a preview of it. All of that PLUS Open Source RVA hosts and staff offer to do chores and menial tasks for donors in order to entice them to donate to WRIR’s Spring Fund Drive at wrir.org. Is that illegal? GIVE, LISTEN, REACT! Friday noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org.
