Open Source RVA presents:

STITCHING IT TOGETHER WITH THE SOURCE. On Friday’s patchwork edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Dina Weinstein welcomes Karen Keech Swerling, organizer for Richmond Really Sews!, a group of sewing enthusiasts who meet and sew regularly at the Healing Hub on Arthur Ashe Boulevard. She talks about the Richmond sewing scene and how fiddling with fabric can lead to friendships. We also present a rebroadcast of Don Harrison’s May interview with Sri Lankan-American author SJ Sindu. Her debut graphic novel for young adults, “Shakti,” has been published by Harper-Collins, a collaboration with artist Nabi H. Ali. The Virginia Commonwealth University professor tells us about adapting her words to a visual medium, and why her LGBTQ-positive themes might not be welcome in places like Florida. IT’S THE SOURCE, OF COURSE. Listen Friday noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org.
