The Church of the Ecstatic presents:
ALL YAKUZA, ALL THE TIME
*5 years and 3 (main series!) games later, I’m still a huge fan! Enjoy! *
Ryu Ga Gotoku, “Like a Dragon,” aka Yakuza in the west, is a series of video games spanning 7 main volumes, and many spinoffs, from the PS2 to right now, set in the seedy sides of Tokyo and Osaka, with lots of fighting, dramatic shirt-removal, tragedy, politics, honor, justice, alongside an in-depth depiction of everyday life, from the mundane to the outrageous. I LOVE THEM.
In honor of both my friend’s birthday, who introduced me to this glorious series, and the announcement of remasters of Yakuza 3,4, and 5 coming out, I’m playing music with some relation to the games, whether it’s city pop from the 80s, soundtracks, songs that in-game songs were based off of, and just things that I love that share common themes. I hope you dig this tribute!
