Monday, July 23 begins a new daytime schedule!

WRIR will make several changes to our daytime news and public affairs schedule starting on Monday July 23. We’re expanding our morning Points Of View block and tweaking the afternoon Ideas & Culture lineup. Our growing midday Local Voices block, now two hours every weekday (11 AM to 1 PM), will be unaffected by these changes.

In the new schedule, we’re grouping related shows into five major blocks:

Points Of View Block

Monday-Friday from 9 to 11 AM

Richmond Independent Radio’s Points Of View block follows the award-winning daily newscast Democracy Now! (Mon-Fri 8-9 AM) with a set of diverse voices discussing newsworthy topics. Several of your favorite Points Of View programs will be heard one hour earlier than previously: Left, Right & Center, Reveal, CounterSpin and This Way Out.

The popular Thomas Jefferson Hour moves to Thursday at 9 AM, where it will be followed at 10:00 by Your Weekly Constitutional, the only radio show we know that focuses on the extremely topical subject of constitutional law. Ken Rudin’s Political Junkie, a staple of the late, lamented NPR show Talk Of The Nation, returns to WRIR as its own program; it will be heard Friday at 9 AM.

Harry Shearer’s Le Show, now in its 14th year on 97.3 FM, brings its mix of news and humor to Monday at 10 AM. And new to Richmond’s airwaves is the Peabody Award-winning To The Best Of Our Knowledge from Wisconsin Public Radio, where long-form interviews help fuel deep insights into our world. You’ll hear it at 10 AM on Tuesday.

Ideas & Culture Block

Monday-Friday from 1 to 3 PM

Because there’s more to knowledge than just the news, WRIR devotes weekday afternoons to ten of the most absorbing programs public radio has to offer. A Way With Words, the radio show about language, moves into the Ideas & Culture block on Tuesday at 1 PM. Big Picture Science presents modern research through lively and intelligent storytelling Tuesday at 2 PM; it’s a perfect follow-up to Radiolab at 1:00.

Snap Judgment, “storytelling with a beat,” joins Richmond Independent Radio Thursday at 2 PM, following The Moth Radio Hour at 1:00, making Thursday afternoon into 97.3 FM’s Story Hour. On Being, the show that covers religion and so much more, shifts to Monday at 1 PM, where it precedes The New Yorker Radio Hour at 2:00.
