Jazz Fest Salute to the Great WWOZ !!!
It’s that time of year when New Orleans is celebrating with Jazz Fest, and the non-stop music has thrilled hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors alike. The great WWOZ — a model of community radio, dedicated to preserving the music, culture and heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana — has been broadcasting live from a number of the performances. Each year, WWOZ issues “thank-you” CDs to donors who contribute to its fund drives. A total of 45 have been released, and thanks to WWOZ, I have them all. In the spirit of Jazz Fest, I’m subbing for Scott and will highlight some great performances from these commemorative CDs. This music is not available elsewhere, so enjoy the NOLA spirit and rarities courtesy of two great community radio stations: WWOZ and WRIR !!!! We’ll start off with a track from the Spring 2017 compilation, “Back In The House,” Sounds of New Orleans Vol. 45.
