On Friday’s “Did you miss us?” season premiere of Open Source RVA, we talk about the 2023 Afrikana Independent Film Festival, running in various venues and theatres across Richmond thru Sunday. Founder and director Enjoli Moon joins me to talk about the 50 plus movies and workshops, and details what’s new at Virginia’s pioneering African American film festival. I also have a conversation with the incomparable Mad Skillz. The legendary Richmond rapper and DJ talks with us about his new film, “90s Girl Brunch,” premiering at Afrikana on Saturday night. THEN Dina Weinstein checks in with singer/songwriter Mackenzie Roark who is participating, with other Richmond musicians, in a special tribute to songwriter Leonard Cohen at The Camel on Sept. 21.
