On Friday’s jazzy, star-spangled edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Dina Weinstein talks about the exhibit and documentary, “Beyond Valor,” with filmmakers and staff from the American Civil War Museum, Aliyah Harrison, Oliver Mendoza and John Dixon. The incisive “Beyond Valor” explores the little-known history of the U.S. Colored Troops. THEN Chuck Moore spends some time with Michael J. Gourrier, AKA Mr. Jazz. WRIR’s legendary Sunday morning DJ and jazz music director has enjoyed a distinguished radio career that includes 25 years at the great WWOZ in New Orleans.
