James River Film Fest event ‘Hisham Mayet’s African “Guerilla ethnologies”‘ on 4/20 at The Byrd? The first film of the event is The Divine River: Ceremonial Pageantry in the Sabel – A record of the music, rituals and landscape along the Niger (River of Rivers) through Mali and Republic of Niger, condensed from forty hours of footage shot 2007-2012. A journey of visual and music associations that create their own chronology beyond cultures and borders. The second film is Oulaya’s Wedding – The Doueh family band led by Doueh and wife Halima have toured the world and performed for over 33 yrs, but now their biggest gig to date looms–their daughter’s wedding. Determined to throw a big celebration–in accordance with their stature–it’s to be a week long Sahraoui wedding of feasting, dancing and music, but that’s just part of it! https://www.jamesriverfilm.org/
