Ah, the emo phase. Many of us cultivated a brooding and angsty state of mind for the better half of our youth. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wishes we were still in that phase of our life, mostly due to the music produced as a result of these emotions.
The ‘second wave’ of emo emerged in the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s as a result of punk bands adding melodic elements to their sound and significantly more bummed tones to their lyrics. The influence of the second gen. emo has had a lasting impression on post-punk and alternative bands of today.
Tonight’s airing of Mood Indigo dives into this era and pulls out some of those real down and out tunes from this enchanting time.
