A Salute to the Great WWOZ !!!

WRIR is driven by its mission to air under-represented music, news and views to the RVA listening area, and beyond! It is one of many listener-supported and volunteer-driven community radio stations across the USA that enrich the lives of people and serve the community. In New Orleans, WWOZ 90.7 FM is the city’s Jazz and Heritage Station, a community radio station currently operating out of the French Quarter. Like WRIR, WWOZ is a listener-supported, volunteer-programmed radio station. WWOZ’s mission is to be the worldwide voice, archive and flag-bearer of New Orleans culture and musical heritage. Since 1994, WWOZ has produced a series of limited-edition CDs as fund drive “thank-you” gifts to donors. To date, 44 of these CDs have been released, with great performances that are unavailable anywhere else. Today, in thanks and in a kindred spirit with WWOZ, I’m featuring 2 hours of tracks from these WWOZ “Sounds of New Orleans” CDs. I want to salute that great New Orleans station, and share more music that you will not hear anywhere else in this listening area! Enjoy the journey, and thanks for listening!
