Friday Breakfast Blend presents:

Sooo much good stuff this week! I did a show on Monday which was focused on interviews with musicians and I have a couple of the best ones left to share today. The first is Ola Belle Reed, and we’ll hear some of her beautiful mountain music, as well as other string legends of the Appalachians. I also have the funniest interview with Eartha Kitt which of course is a great excuse to play divas of the sixties. And as long as we’re doing sixties pop, we ought to hear some from South Africa, as well as disco from across Africa and Japan. And then there’s contemporary French and African Rap and Dance pop. I’m just in a feel good, jump around to terrible pop kind of mood. Pardon my dancing.
Much Love, Princess Beet Farmer

Lyrics to Je Voux by Zaz:

I want

Versions: #1#2#3
Give me a suite at the Ritz hotel, I don’t want that
Chanel’s jewellery, I don’t want that
Give me a limo, what would I do with it?
Offer me staff, what would I do with it?
A mansion in Neufchatel, it’s not for me
Offer me the Eiffel tower, what would I do with it?

I want love, joy, good spirit
It’s not your money that will make me happy
I want to die with a hand on my heart
Let’s go together, let’s discover my freedom,
Forget all your prejudice, welcome to my reality

I’m fed up with your good manners, it’s too much for me
I eat with my hands, I’m like that
I speak loud and I’m direct, sorry
Let’s end the hypocrisy, I’m out of it
I’m tired of double-talks
Look at me, I’m not even mad at you, I’m just like that

I want love, joy, good spirit
It’s not your money that will make me happy
I want to die with a hand on my heart
Let’s go together, let’s discover my freedom,
Forget all your prejudice, welcome to my reality

Maman J’ai Mal by MHD:

Mom I Hurt
Whether you are rich or poor
Basically it’s the same
The same accounts to be given before the Almighty
I try to keep faith
Between angel and demon , I can be both at once
Mom trust me she says I’m a brave
To get out of the worries I can leave an arm
The corn counts on me at the end of the month
I have more strength to lift the oid ‘

[Pre-Chorus]
Always the same I have not changed
I hurt people, I’m sorry
In the evening at home I frightened the 16 to console me
Always the same ones who followed me
And the same ones who hated me
I have not changed teams
The beginning of a story that is written

[Refrain]
Mom I Hurt
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
In the evening I ask what will be the worry of tomorrow
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
Mom I Hurt, Mom I Hurt

[Couplet 2]
More often under the porch than at home
The team is reduced to each season
I was told “MHD, go it alone
No one will follow you in your coffin ”
Trust buys, friendship does not pay
If love is blind for Mom I’m Ray Charles
An eye on my watch, it’s my time approaching
Before moving from here I want to make my friends dance

[Pre-Chorus]
Always the same I have not changed
I hurt people, I’m sorry
In the evening at home I frightened the 16 to console me
Always the same ones who followed me
And the same ones who hated me
I have not changed teams
The beginning of a story that is written

[Refrain]
Mom, I’m hurting
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
In the evening I ask what will be the worry of tomorrow
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
Mom, I hurt, Mom, I hurt
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
In the evening I ask what will be the worry of tomorrow
I try to trace my way but the jealous ones are there
Mom, I hurt, Mom, I hurt

[Couplet 3]
And the more time passes
I realize that success is never very far
I was away from the rhinestones
I always worry when I climb on the platform
I hear the noise of the crowd
Mom, do not worry, your son is going to hold on
I do not complain, I have the mif that surrounds me
They say that I will shine then I wait my turn

Marly-Gomont by Kamini

Marly-Gomont

Dedicated to all those who come from little villages
Those godforsaken little villages nobody ever rapped for
Not even a flow
Those little villages France doesn’t even know they are part of it
Those little villages no one knows, not even Jean-Pierre Pernault*

My name is Kamini
I don’t come from the ghetto
I come from a little village called Marly-Gomont
So let’s go up on the beat huh, the beat huh that goes
Ta da da da din

In Marly-Gomont, roads aren’t tarred
The average age is 65 in the surroundings
One single tennis field, one single basketball field
Only three youngsters in the village so for playing that sucks
I come from a village in the middle of nowhere : Aisne, Picardie**
Surely 95 % cows, 5 % inhabitants
And among them, only one black Family
It had to be mine, what a fucking nightmare
I told my father, “We could have moved to Moscow, nuh ?
Wouldn’t we have felt like strangers too much because of the temperature and people?”
He replied me, “Hey, what the hell, are you joshing me ?
It’ll be fine here, oh”
My eye! I was 6 when, the first school day, I just bawled
Because of those bloody idiots there. Do you know what they called me?
“Hey bambula, hey Pepito, hey bambula, hey nigger!”
Out of children’s mouths often comes their parents’ truth

(chorus)
I don’t come from the ghetto
But here the beat is good
I don’t come from Paris
But from Marly-Gomont
The roads aren’t tarred
There are only fields
But even so, I met lots of trashes

In Marly-Gomont, people don’t speak in slang
“They speak normally and that’s pretty enough!”
Sometimes they like you
“I don’t like Arabs, I don’t like Blacks
But I like you, even though you’re Black”
From time to time, they talk about politics with much philosophy
“Anyway, what I say is, they’re a rotten bunch!”
In little villages, if yo got a heart condition, you’re in a fine mess
You gotta drive past twenty villages, 50 kilometers altogether to find a hospital or nothing
There is nothing but fields
Sometimes there’s a soccer game on Sunday
The stadium is a field
Where lines are drawn and goals are assembled
What about the nets?
In the local team, there’s always a guy nicknamed Kéké***
“Come on Kéké, come on Kéké!”
If it’s not Kéké, in the other team, there’s always a guy they call Goatty
“Come on Goatty, come on Goatty!”

A typical day around her
The mailman, a tractor and nothing…
Or maybe just a cow now and then

(chorus x2)

In the kindergarten, I was the only Black
And in the fucking secondary school, I was the only Black
And in the fucking high school, I was the only Black
From kindergarten to high school, always as many slaps
Given for a foolish reasons or gratuitously
Daddy always told me, “That’s good, don’t fight, huh son?”
But I wanted to rebel, but over there, there’s nothing to burn
There’s only one bus for the high school, it’s the same one for the youth center
There’s no point burning the neighbours’ car
People don’t have, they all have mopeds
On top of that, the bakery stands 8 kilometers far from there
8 kilometers, every morning, on a moped!
Where have Vincent gone? did he secretly go away?
“Oh no, nobody does it here, he left with his moped”
Left with his moped? aka little villages’ subway
That’s the beat huh, the beat huh that goes
Ta da da da din

Dedicated to all those who come from little villages
Godforsaken little villages, where that’s hell
Where there’s nothing to do, where everything is green
Those little villages no one knows, not even Jean-Pierre Pernault

(chorus x4)

Mme. Pavoshko by Black M:

Mrs Pavoshko

Versions: #1#2
This song is a dedication to Mrs Pavoshko
Do you remember me? Mister Diallo

Yes, Mrs Pavoshko, no
I’m not in jail or in hospital, no
I make hits, mrs Pavoshko
And your kids like me, mrs Pavoshko
Yes, yes, yes, yes, mrs Pavoshko
I still have the same inspiration, mrs Pavoshko
It’s for my friends and their weeds, mrs Pavoshko
If you want, we tweet ourselves, mrs Pavoshko

Myself, head under water
I said to myself : “It’s time
To set fire!” : Fire
Fire, fire!
Myself, head under water
I said to myself : “It’s time
To set fire!” : Fire
Fire, fire!

Yo, do you remember me?
The litle black who sloged nutty couplets
Fuck the class rep, tell me where is the micro
Apparently someone denounced me, yo, she’s spying me?
My life, my lessons, yes, yes, yes, yes
I don’t f***ing mind
Yes I know, it’s a pity, as a result
Your supervisors are against me, me , me

Yes, Mrs Pavoshko, no
I’m not in jail or in hospital, no
I make hits, mrs Pavoshko
And your kids like me, mrs Pavoshko
Yes, yes, yes, yes, mrs Pavoshko
I still have the same inspiration, mrs Pavoshko
It’s for my friends and their weeds, mrs Pavoshko
If you want, we tweet ourselves, mrs Pavoshko

Myself, head under water
I said to myself : It’s time
To set fire! : Fire
Fire, fire!
Myself, head under water
I said to myself : It’s time
To set fire! : Fire
Fire, fire!

I made too much two way trip to Local Education Authority
Your speech in my head, I made it a real choral
You, you’re sat behind your desk saying me “Go knock up”
And me, I prefer laughing over slaping you in the face
As soon as our looks meet, hup, adrenaline
Yes, I know, I don’t look right through the math teacher
I analysed one of these Nakk’s couplets, he kicked
Yes, I know mrs, rap almost spoiled my life²

Yes, Mrs Pavoshko, no
I’m not in jail or in hospital, no
I make hits, mrs Pavoshko
And your kids like me, mrs Pavoshko
Yes, yes, yes, yes, mrs Pavoshko
I still have the same inspiration, mrs Pavoshko
It’s for my friends and their weeds, mrs Pavoshko
If you want, we tweet ourselves, mrs Pavoshko

I sweared to myself one day you’ll dance on my songs
A the time when I wanted to obtain a Smith and Wesson²
A little voice whispered me “Let’s shoot on the school!
It will make a little anecdote, the director is stupid!”
Why this stupid supervisor ask me clear out pockets
We aren’t on police station, and, me, I’m a long-service
Give me your hours of detention, go to warm your workmates too
Be in rage, we are the high school’s stars

Yes, nowadays, they’ll say
I’m rapping just for kids, for money
What an odd guy, “so stupid” too
He thinks to have King Kong’s strength
Yes, nowadays, they’ll say
I’m rapping just for kids, for money
What an odd guy, “so stupid” too
He thinks to have King Kong’s strength
And, etc

Yes, Mrs Pavoshko, no
I’m not in jail or in hospital, no
I make hits, mrs Pavoshko
And your kids like me, mrs Pavoshko
Yes, yes, yes, yes, mrs Pavoshko
I still have the same inspiration, mrs Pavoshko
It’s for my friends and their weeds, mrs Pavoshko
If you want, we tweet ourselves, mrs Pavoshko

Myself, head under water
I said to myself : It’s time
To set fire! : Fire
Fire, fire!
Myself, head under water
I said to myself : It’s time
To set fire! : Fire
Fire, fire!

During class, teachers said
” You’re one of the stupidest kid in school”
Throw out your notebook, set it on fire, fire
Fire, fire
And it’s, for you, a warning,
No more excuse with the entertainment
Throw out your notebook, set it on fire, fire
Fire, fire
Yes, I did deliberately late to be fired
Yes, mrs, yes I smoked my spliff in toilet
Yes, I was present just in cafeteria
Yes, I haven’t passed neither the baccalauréat², nor the school-leaving diploma²
Yes, I haven’t passed the GCSEs, yes, I thank you
You give e the strength to achieve one of my craziest dreams
“Eyes bigger than world”²

It is summer that brought her later to her house
But one day she flew away in the air

I know where she is

You didn’t sleep without sun (in North Africa) [3]
She dreams, laying, goodbye sun (North Africa)
She is frightened without sun (North Africa)
All of North Africa sleeps, goodbye sun (North Africa)
