Open Source RVA presents:

CELLO I LOVE YOU!! On today’s Fall FUNdrive installment of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Don Harrison talks to master cellist Sterling Elliott. The 22-year-old Newport News native, a rising star in the celloverse, is currently enjoying an artist residency with the Richmond Symphony, and that includes two big Masterworks concerts this weekend at the Carpenter Theatre. We also talk with members of the Afghan Student Organization at VCU– Yasameen Anwari, Waris Bahrami and Saadat Bahrami– about efforts to help resettle displaced Afghanistan refugees and to assist those persecuted and terrorized by the Taliban back home. And did you know that you’re in the midst of the WRIR Fall Fund Drive?! RVA Dirt’s Melissa Vaughn, the president of the Virginia Center For the Public Press, WRIR’s  parent organization, gives us the lowdown on how listeners can support their favorite radio station (hint, hint, it has something to do with going to wrir.org/donate). WE AIN’T TOO PROUD TO BEG SO YOU SHOULDN’T BE TOO PROUD TO GIVE! Friday noon on WRIR 97.3 FM and wrir.org.
