Banji Kaicho presents:
Known for their adamant stance and extreme rarity, ALM Records has long been hailed as one of the most important independent labels in the history of Japanese experimental music. The incredible commitment from founder Yukio Kojima over the years has offered some crucial documentations in terms of contemporary classical, free improv and avant-garde jazz scenes in Japan, particularly during 1974 to 1988. On today’s Banji Kaicho, we are looking back at a wide/wild selection of ALM’s loudest, weirdest and obscurest records which still sound as shocking as they can be, and doing it with two long sets in collage style – the only authentic ALM fashion that I approve. This is a dangerous show, but someone has to do it. And no way this can be aired anywhere else in Richmond at 1pm than WRIR LP 97.3FM and wrir.org.
