Open Source RVA presents:

THE SOURCE IS LISTENING! On Friday’s Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Dina Weinstein talks to Beth Almore, a music teacher in Richmond Public Schools and a board member of the Richmond Education Association. The educator tells us about the “Rally For Safe Schools” event she’s helping to organize on Nov. 6 at River City Middle School to protest flawed and broken facilities at RPS and problems such as mold, rodents, broken HVAC and fire safety issues. AND DON”T FORGET TO CAST YOUR BALLOT ON NOV. 7! As Richmond voters prepare to say yay or nay to a casino project, I speak with Carolyn Hawley, President of the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling, a non-profit organization that promotes public awareness of gambling addiction and presents ways to prevent and treat it. She’s got some troubling statistics about problem gambling in Virginia since the state loosened its gaming laws to allow “games of chance” and casinos. All of that PLUS our own Goad Gatsby gets scary, very scary, at the big Richmond Halloween Parade. LISTEN! It’s a vote sticker flaunting edition of Open Source RVA on Friday at noon on WRIR 97.3FM and wrir.org.
