My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond
Selects New Executive Director
Richmond, VA – Nathaniel Womack, Jr. has been elected the new executive director and president of My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond.
Mr. Womack, who had served on the board of the men’s mentoring non-profit for the past seven years, takes the helm following the death of MBK founder and executive director Stephan “Coach” Hicks, who passed away last September.
“In Coach, I found not just a brother but a friend,” Mr. Womack said. “I’m honored to carry on the legacy of my friend.“Fatherhood is not a destination. It’s an ongoing journey that lasts a lifetime and requires constant adjustments.”
Mr. Womack envisions MBK having its own building that will include classrooms, counseling, living quarters, social workers and a full-time staff to provide all the resources that men need to adjust to society after incarceration and to reunite fathers with their families. “The My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond building will be a one-stop solution,” Mr. Womack said.
A native of Baltimore, MD, Mr. Womack is a retired Army senior drill instructor and certified personal trainer. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. While living in California, he served as a mentor and Bible study teacher for inmates at the San Joaquin Probation and Sheriff Departments. He also served in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for Juvenile Justice for five years teaching a program he developed called “Healthy Bodies/Healthy Minds”.
After moving to Richmond, Mr. Womack served as a Quality Assurance Specialist with the US Defense Logistics Agency Aviation PaCE program. In 2019, he was elected president of the Blacks in Government Bellwood Chapter. He retired in 2019 after 45 years of working in the federal government.
Mr. Womack is married to Cat Womack and together they have five children, 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
