Hey everyone, Dr. Jay here. It’s a thrill to be able to join WRIR. I moved to Richmond from Rochester NY in August of 2023. I had a show on the local listener-supported station there – WBER (Shout out to The Only Station That Matters!)
I’ve always had a passion for music, and have always sought out something other than the mainstream. I remember being a 7 year old in the late 60s, calling my local AM station requesting In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
My love for alternative music and for music history has combined into the Alternative Milestones show. Every week I highlight the people, the events, and the music that have milestone anniversaries (5,10,15,20 etc). Scientific studies have proven that music and memory are connected, and my show will hopefully bring back fond memories of where you were and what you were doing when the music was new.
With so many eras and genres included under the “alternative music” umbrella, I guarantee a great variety during each show. I have a blast researching these milestones and I’ll tell you about each one. And maybe you’ll hear something that’s new to you as well.
I also post every day’s milestones on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DrJayOnTheRadio. If you see a milestone and want to comment or request a specific tune, I love interacting with listeners to ensure they’re hearing something they care about.
I hope you’ll join me Thursdays from 1-3 PM.
Long Live Independent Radio!

When asked if “Happy House” was a cynical song, Siouxsie replied: “It is sarcastic. In a way, like television, all the medias, it is like adverts, the perfect family where as it is more common that husbands beat their wives. There are mental families really. The projection is everyone smiling, blond hair, sunshine, eating butter without fat and everyone perfect”.
Focusing on all things moody. Because all emotions are valid!

My show is mainly a HEAVY METAL SHOW, with other elements of dark and heavy music, as well as horror movie scores. My main focus is all genres with in the metal territory from 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and up to now. Looking to give listeners a chance to hear artists and bands they wouldn’t normally get a chance to hear. My show is horror movie themed as well. Metal and horror music pretty much go hand and hand since I was a kid, so I wanted my show to reflect that as well. I look forward to entertaining the listeners with in your face intense HEAVY METAL AND OTHER DARK MUSIC.
