Alternative Milestones presents:

It’s fundraiser week at WRIR 97.3FM Richmond Community Radio, and rather than just doing the usual Alternative Milestones thing I’d like to donate this week’s show to the supporters of WRIR. So here’s what I wanna do. For anyone who makes a donation to the station (at https://www.wrir.org/donate/) OF ANY AMOUNT during my show this Thursday from 1-3 PM, if you then either call me in the studio at (804) 649-9737 or hit me up on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/DrJayOnTheRadio/) – you can request a song. Any song. If I can find it, and it’s suitable for the air, I’ll play it ASAP.
But let’s make this fun. Since this fundraiser week is about giving to support #independentradio here in Richmond, how about we try to come up with songs about radio, or giving, or independence. And I’d love to hear what makes WRIR special to you.
It doesn’t have to be an alternative song, although that’s kinda my wheelhouse. But this is like the Godfather at his daughter’s wedding. I’ll refuse no request if it’s something I can give.
I hope you tune in, and donate, and call in a request this Thursday!

Soul and Inspiration presents:

This week on Soul and Inspiration, DJ D.E.B.S takes you on a ride through the early life and career of church trained disco diva Sylvester. While past episodes have focused on the careers and impact of gospel artists, today we’ll explore the influence of a secular artist who began his career in the churches of LA and was inspired by modern gospel greats: Sylvester.

Breakfast Blend w/ Galaxy Girl & Friends presents:

It’s Spring Fund Drive here at WRIR 97.3FM Richmond Community Radio. Thanks to all who have donated so far. And if you haven’t yet, you can donate at wrir.org/donate.

Even though we’re in the planning stages of moving to our very own building, we still need YOUR help to keep our current studios up and running. This means replacing worn out headphones and frayed cords, updating computer and internet security, keeping our streaming hardware running, and tuning up our turntables and CD players that get heavy-duty use!

Thanks for listening, and thanks for supporting WRIR, your community radio station!

The Church of the Ecstatic presents:

A really… eclectic mix tonight. Kinda goes from high energy to low and switches genres quite a bit. But I hope that keeps it interesting?

The Lotus Land Show presents:

The Honorable Right Reverend Dr. Michael Miracle is off performing priestly functions this week, so Alyssa Salomon and Bill Lupoletti are sitting in for Rev. Miracle for this special Spring 2024 Fund Drive episode. Let’s call it “Can’t Stop The Lotus Land A Go-Go.”

Alyssa, better known to the WRIR cognoscenti as P. Swann, was the host of Can’t Stop The Music way back in the station’s early years, playing found sounds, comedy, music intentionally and unintentionally humorous, other things oblique and obscure, plus the occasional actual song. She’s bringing two hours worth of her favorite Can’t Stop The Music hits.

Bill has been decolonizing your ears on Global A Go-Go (currently Sunday at 1 PM) since WRIR’s beginning. He’ll mainly be pushing buttons and twiddling knobs, serving as Alyssa’s straight man and reminding you of the donation imperative, since it is fund drive time. Make Michael proud and make your donation to WRIR during The Lotus Land Show.

Dream Girl Radio / EXT SRC presents:

Today I’m digging into some UK garage tunes including some a few old favorites, a few recent favorites, and some newer tracks that I found while putting together this playlist. My introduction to British electronic music started with jungle and drum & bass. It wasn’t until later when I researched the origins of dubstep and grime that garage got my attention. Artists like Zed Bias (who has some broken beat roots) or Flava D (with connections to dubstep artists like Swindle and Silkie) became favorites of mine and garage quickly became a staple in my driving playlists. I hope you enjoy the show!

Hey everyone. I love that you are tuning in every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 9-11 pm! We here at WRIR would like to thank you for all of your support over the years. I’m especially grateful for the time I have been here. At this time, we are having our Spring fund drive and we would love to have your support. You heard more about it on tonight’s show and we love you for listening. Tonight you heard some underground Hip-hop and R&B and some music I haven’t heard in a while. I’m going through so many emotions and I just want you to feel me through the music. Be easy.
