Louisiana Dance Hall presents:

Yeah, today is Lundi Gras, or “Fat Monday” — the day before Mardi Gras, so it’s an even better (than usual) reason for music in the true carnival-style! We all can’t make the trip to NOLA for the Mardi Gras celebration, so the next best thing is to enjoy a visit to WRIR’s Louisiana Dance Hall. Today we’re featuring party and celebration songs, but not the usual ones you might expect. Just to mix things up a bit, which is what we do best here at WRIR. Thanks for tuning in, and please click for today’s complete playlist …

Curved Air presents:

[Heitor Villa-Lobos]
Legendary pianist, composer, and conductor Andre Previn passed away on February 28 at the age of 89. We begin tonight by listening to Previn conduct The London Symphony Orchestra in Benjamin Britten’s ‘Sinfonia da Requiem’. Rest in peace, maestro.

March 5th is the 132nd birthday of Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). Described as “the single most significant creative figure in Brazilian art music”, he is also the most famous South American composer of all time. He is perhaps best known for his guitar compositions and for his nine pieces called Bachianas Brasileiras.
